Shanghai Cooperation Organization Pavilion at Expo 2017 Astana

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Pavilion, fabricated by Pico, had a number of aims at Expo 2017 Astana. Firstly, to promote the organization itself, second to introduce the ‘Spirit of Shanghai’ to the world and third to conduct friendly exchanges and interactions between the people in SCO member countries with the following missions in mind: creating collaborative innovation, working towards a green economy and taking joint responsibility for public welfare.

The experience journey

Inside, visitors familiarised themselves with the history of the SCO, viewed the organization’s historical development and connection with the wider world through a massive timeline and other materials, explored the historical ties between the SCO member countries and their people, and examined the SCO’s vision of hand-in-hand development for the future.

A huge, striking drum-shaped personification of the ‘Shanghai spirit’ was the focal point of the pavilion. The giant drum was a replica of an original work by Yuan Xikun, a famous sculptor in China, which is located at the Shanghai headquarters of the SCO. Visitors were invited to bang on the drum to bring to life the vivid spirit of Shanghai.

Pico received a certificate of merit from the SCO’s Secretary-General Rashid Alimov for our proactive contributions during the pavilion’s preparation.

Pico is delighted to have been involved in the activation of seven pavilions at Expo 2017 Astana: the Belarus, Israel, France, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization pavilions. These pavilions are now part of Pico’s continuously-expanding and award-winning world expo and specialised expo portfolio, which has reached almost 90 pavilions in size.
