The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is the pre-eminent civil rights organisation in the USA. This year, the NAACP hosted its 111th National Convention entirely online with a first-ever virtual livestream format from 13-26 September. Throughout the two-week event, more than 130 social activists, industry leaders and public servants came together virtually to champion solutions to some of society’s most pressing issues.

Chosen as the official production partner for this year’s virtual convention, Infinity Marketing Team worked closely with the NAACP to produce over 25 live and on-demand sessions.

Insight

Already postponed in its original form as a physical event, the continuing pandemic in the country caused the NAACP to consider new options for its influential national convention of the year. The virtual livestream format provided an effective solution that would allow the convention to safely continue its vital dialogues.

Solution

The convention was kicked off with an opening address from the President and CEO of NAACP and featured special music performances by artists Jamison Ross and Kierra Sheard. During the event, guests gathered in live and on-demand sessions to discuss hot topics including COVID-19, voter suppression, police brutality, racism and the 2020 US election.

Renowned speakers were a highlight of the event, with a roster that included US Vice Presidential candidate Senator Kamala Harris, New York Times bestselling author and documentary filmmaker Stacey Abrams, and the producer and author of the Black Panther comics series, Reginald Hudlin.

The outcome of the event exceeded NAACP’s expectations:

Hundreds of media outlets covered the convention including Boston Herald, Boston Globe and GBH
